New Toy…

I was never really satisfied with my Pryme Patriot headset. It always seemed to be in my way or I was uncomfortable with how it fit on my ear. Even though the Patriot is adjustable it still was big on my head allowing the headset to move around during sudden movement, dropping for cover, etc. Not to mention I totally hate the Patriot style PTT button. So I did some research…it was a toss up between the Elite II, and the Devgru Throat Mic or Devgru Frogman headset, in the end I chose the Elite II mainly for cost, but also for comfort and performance.

I arrived to work this morning with a box sitting on my desk, lucky me…

In that box was my Cavalvy Elite II tactical headset in. So far I am pretty impressed with the quality of this headset. Sound and Mic quality seem to be awesome with even the slightest whisper getting through. Grabbed this one for EHobby Asia, pretty impressive customer service from HK headset made it in just under 7 days.

I found that the headset fits fine over a ball, patrol or watch cap. It will also fit fine under almost all helmets. The headset will also fit under a boonie hat without problem the only draw back is you need to size the boonie about half a size larger then you normally wear.

I really like the style of the PTT button, it takes decent force to active and has enough physically feedback to let you “feel” when it is depressed and transmitting. Not to mention that the headset has a quick disconnect from the PTT housing allowing you to easily take off the headset without messing with how the PTT is mounted on your gear.

The headset is very light and comfortable sitting on the ear. Also the ear piece does a good job of not blocking ambient sounds allowing you to still have a good situational awareness.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the mounting clip on the back of the PTT button. The mounting clip comes screwed into the PTT and is faced horizontal, so it basically you can not clip it onto MOLLE or PAL webbing. The clip really needs to have a swivel this would open up a much larger array of mounting options.

I was able to remove the middle head strap from my headset to allow an easier fit under my boonie.

I’ll make sure and keep everyone updated after the Elite II gets some serious use this summer with my final thoughts on the headset and it’s performance.
