While we are talking about MMA, here is the UFC 107 card. I am going to Pick BJ Penn to win over Sanchez via not KO or TKO but by Murder.
Whoa, is it just me or does Diego just sound like a total douche in his interview? I mean really how many fighting clichés can you drop in a single run on sentence?!?
Diego is pretty odd, but I wouldn’t count him out. If you recall Penn recently got it handed to him by GSP and his wrestlilng. Sanchez has a similar emphasis on wrestling, though I wouldn’t put him on GSP’s level. Sanchez has also been improving his knowledge of BJJ, so his defense may be improved.
I would give the stand up advantage to Penn with his boxing though. I’d say Sanchez’s best shot is a gameplan similar to GSP’s.
It’s MMA though, so who knows what will happen…
Oh, I totally agree Diego is a great fighter and an excellent wrestler, but keep in mind BJ had to MOVE up in weight to fight GSP. Also that GSP’s plan was to “sap” Penn’s stamina by pressing him on the cage, which worked perfect.
The thing that makes Penn so dangerous is his A) Speed and B) heavy ass hands and C) crazy flexibility to avoid subs and mitigate GnP damage.
I just don’t think anyone right now is in the same league as Penn granted that is “if” Penn comes into the fight in shape and prepared he seems to have shady work ethic in the gym from time to time.
Yeah, I really can’t argue with that. I’m not much of a Penn fan, but he is a monster at 155. If Sanchez can work a similar sapping strategy against Penn I think that would give him the best shot. But you make a great point in that GSP probably had 20-25 pounds on Penn when they fought, which is an advantage Sanchez will not have (at least by that margin).
Should be a pretty interesting fight though.
