Forum Issue

Looks as if the forums DB became  corrupted at some point last night. I was informed by KDog around 12:30 CST that she could not access the site, and found a glaring SQL server error when I attempted to access the forums and I have yet to even install the 3.2 upgrade (veg’d out last night).

I opened a ticket with the hosting company and it appear they were unable to repair the DB corruption so I will have to do a restore from Saturday’s backup any posts between Saturday evening and Thursday will be lost.

This is the third DB corruption issues I have run into, but the first one that was not able to be repaired. I believe the issues stems from the share hosting service the site currently sits on is over loaded. I am looking to move the sit to a VPS, but the cost is almost 2.5x (would run $480) a year. Not only would this improve stability but, will GREATLY increase the sites speed. However I am not sure if I want to shoulder that cost burned, I will talk to some community members to get an idea of possibly running a annual game in order to help fund the site.

Another possibility is to host the site from my residence with a  business account, however this leads to a single point of failure.

The forum should be up shortly as soon as the DB has been restored.

*UPDATE*

Looks like the backup from the 23rd is corrupt as well. Not sure how far back I will need to go in order to correct the issue.

*UPDATE 2*

F’d in the A

Will have to restore form the manual back up taken on June 4th, all post data between June 4th and now will be lost. This is a good, hard lesson on why you need to run a daily cron job to backup your DBs.
